- About Prof. Julian Ibezimako Mbegbu
Professor Julian Ibezimako Mbegbu is a Professor of Statistics in the Department of Statistics, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria. He obtained his PhD in Applied Statistics and has published over 70 articles in reputable journals.
He is very active in research and supervision of postgraduate students. He has supervised fourteen (14) PhD and many MPhil/MSc students. Professor Mbegbu is a Senior Research Fellow and has attracted Research Grants to University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria. He is the pioneer Head of Department of Statistics, and member of Senate of the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria. He is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the reputable Benin Journal of Statistics (Official Journal of the Department of Statistics, University of Benin, Nigeria), He is also the pioneer Co-Editor in Chief of the Benin Journal of Physical Sciences ( Official Journal of the Faculty of Physical Sciences, University of Benin). He has also served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Nigerian Statistical Association (now Journal of the Charteref Institute of Statisticians of Nigeria), and has reviewed good number of articles for other journals including Communications in Statistics, Journal of Modern and Applied Statistical Methods, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Journal of Applied Statistics, etc. He is currently an Editor Consultant to University Press Plc, Ibadan, Nigeria. He has organised conferences, workshops, and at different times served as Facilitator in training programmes on Statistical Computing, Modeling and Methods. Professor Mbegbu was a member of Council of the Nigerian Statistical Association (NSA). He is a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Statisticians of Nigeria and Royal Statistical Society, London. He is also a member of the Society of African Editors(SAE) and Statistics Research Group(SRG), University of Benin, Nigeria. He has published in Croatian Operational Research Review (Croatian Operational Research Society), Communications in Statistics-Simulation & Computation (Taylor & Francis), Communications in Statistics-Theory and Methods (Taylor & Francis), Journal of Modern and Applied Statistical Methods(Wayne University), Journal of Quality Technology (Elsevier) Annals of Data Science (Springer), Journal of Applied Statistics (Taylor & Francis) etc. Professor Mbegbu has served as external Examiner to several Universities at different times. He has also participated in Professorial assessment for several Universities, and at different times appointed into National Universities Commission (NUC) team for accreditation of undergraduate programmes in Statistics. Professor Mbegbu has served University of Benin in several capacities namely, University Admission Board, Part-Time Programme Management Board, University Post UTME Committee, University Library & Routine Publication, University Monitoring Committee on Diesel Consumption, University Hall Master. Coordinator of Part-Time & Postgraduate Programmes in Mathematics/Statistics, Editor Consultant, etc. Professor Mbegbu is a teacher, motivator, and has mentored several colleagues who have distinguished themselves in academics and other professional areas. Professor Mbegbu is a Scholar of FGN & African Mathematical Union (AMU),. He is happily married, and has children.
