OlaOluwa S. Yaya obtained a B.Sc. degree in Mathematical Sciences (Statistics bias) from Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Abeokuta, Nigeria, and the M.Sc. and PhD degrees in Statistics, from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. The researcher specializes in Economic and Financial Statistics using Time Series Econometrics, Big Data and Machine Learning tools. Specifically, his research interests include Fractionally integrated processes, Seasonality, Persistence, Nonlinearities and nonlinear time series, Volatility modelling, and Dynamic and time-varying connectedness. His other interests are Text mining, Machine learning tools and Computational Statistics.

Between 2007 and 2008, Dr O. S. Yaya worked as a Data Manager in United States President’s Emergency Plan for HIV/AIDS Relief (US-PEPFAR), College of Medicine, University of Ibadan for a year and later went to HIV/AIDS Prevention programme as a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer, in a USAID funded project in Lagos. In 2009, he joined the Department of Statistics, University of Ibadan, as an Assistant Lecturer, and rose to the rank of Senior Lecturer in 2019. He was the former Coordinator of the Distance Learning Centre Statistics Degree programme. He was also the former Sub-Dean Undergraduates (Physical Sciences), Faculty of Science and former Examination Officer, Department of Statistics, University of Ibadan. Dr Yaya is a recipient of the Postgraduate Doctoral Research Fellowship at the North-West University, South Africa in 2016. He is a recipient of the 2019 maiden edition of Prof Adenike Osofisan Distinguished Science Faculty Scholar Award. He is ranked at third position in Nigeria as a researcher by IDEAS/RePEc in ranks of econometrics published papers of authors. He is also a Friend of Navarra Centre for International Development (NCID), Institute of Culture and Society, University of Navarra, Spain, and has collaborated immensely with the University on research into African Economies, most of these researches were funded by the Spanish government. He is also affiliated with the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam as a Research Fellow. The researcher is also a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Econometrics and Applied Research (CEAR), Ibadan, and Centre for Petroleum, Energy Economics and Law (CPEEL), University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria.

He has attended both local and international conferences to present research articles in these areas of specialization. He has written well over 100 articles and two books to his credit, and those articles, published in world-class journals/Scopus and web of science journals (such as Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, Journal of Applied Statistics, European Journal of Population, Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology, Theoretical and Applied Climatology, Resources Policy, Energy Policy, Economic Modelling, International Journal of Finance & Economics) in the areas of Economic and Finance Statistics, Environment Statistics, and Computational Statistics. He is a reviewer of some of these international journals. He is also a reviewer of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Journal of Applied Statistics. He is a member of Editorial Board of Modern Finance journal. He is an Associate Editor to Asian Journal of Mathematics and Statistics, and Review Editor to Mathematical Finance-Frontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics. Dr Yaya is a Fellow/Member of Royal Statistical Society (RSS) London, International Statistical Institute (ISI), International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics (ISBIS), International Associations of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS), Statistics and Probability African Society (SPAS), Nigerian Statistical Association (NSA) and the Professional Statistician Society of Nigeria (PSSN). He has undertaken several collaborative works and contracts with the CBN Abuja HQ. He has facilitated several trainings on econometric and machine learning tools necessary by Central Bankers of Nigeria for effective monetary policy and he is a Consultant Statistician and Data expert to Central Bank, Abuja HQ. He is also a Consultant to WAIFEM which coordinates capacity development of five central banks (Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Gambia). He is also a Consultant Time Series Econometrician to the Nigerian Mathematical Centre, Abuja, Nigeria, where on regular bases, he with his team organizes and teaches postgraduate courses at the Centre. He is married with children.
