- About Augustine Chuks Anyakorah
Augustine Chuks Anyakorah is a seasoned statistician and economic analyst with a robust background in macroeconomic research and policy development. Born in Ogidi, Anambra State, Nigeria, Mr. Anyakorah holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Statistics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1990) and an IMF Postgraduate Certificate in National Accounts Statistics (1998). He furthered his academic pursuits with an M.B.A in Financial Economics & Fiscal Management from the University of Ado-Ekiti (2006) and an M.Sc. in Applied Statistics with an econometrics focus from the University of Abuja (2019). He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Mathematical Economics at Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
In his role as Head of the Multilateral Research Division at the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) since 2007, Mr. Anyakorah has been instrumental in compiling and analyzing macroeconomic indicators for Nigeria. His work involves peer reviews with ECOWAS member countries, drafting policy memoranda, and evaluating the impact of ECOWAS operations on regional economic integration. He contributes significantly to policy dialogues with government authorities and development partners, and manages research projects from conceptualization to completion.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Anyakorah served as Assistant Director of Macroeconomics at the NBS from 1998 to 2007. In this role, he was responsible for survey planning, instrument design, and the compilation of GDP series for Nigeria. He also conducted marketing research, evaluated price indices, and contributed to the Annual Debt Management Office’s Debt Sustainability Analysis.
Mr. Anyakorah’s career also includes experience as a Software Training Manager at Synergistics Softwares Ltd, Lagos, where he provided client training on various software applications and contributed to software development and sales.
On the international stage, he has been an ECOWAS Task Team member, working on the development and implementation of the 2008 System of National Accounts (SNA) across West Africa. He has also served as a project officer for DFID Technical Assistance and participated in peer review meetings on macroeconomic stability in African countries.
